Floral reminder

Are you one of those people who always misses seeing the wildflowers in bloom because you forgot the season?

If so, the State of California will help you remember the next time as well as provide information for you in the off season.

The state is building a year-round facility at Lancaster in the heart of the state's largest stand of California poppies, the official state flower. The new 2,000-square-foot, $400,000 Jane S. Pinheiro Interpretive Center is being funded by both the state department of parks as well as a private group, the California State Parks Foundation.

Although the best time to see the huge stand of the state's official flower in full bloom is March and April, the center at Lancaster will house information about this prevalent specie and exhibits of many desert wildflowers on a year-round basis.
