For the Walesas, a seventh child

The wife of detained Solidarity union leader Lech Walesa gave birth to a daughter, the couple's seventh child, on Thursday.

A Roman Catholic priest was scheduled to meet with Mr. Walesa to give him the news in Gdansk and ask what name he wants the child to be given. Walesa last saw his wife, Danuta, about three weeks ago. He has been held by Polish authorities since the imposition of martial law Dec. 13.

Walesa's sixth child was also born while he was imprisoned for trade union activities, shortly before strikes in 1980 that led to the formation of Solidarity.
