W. German envoy safe after gun attack in Iran

Gunmen ambushed the West German ambassador to Iran on his way to his embassy in Tehran but he escaped safely, a West German Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

The spokesman said a car blocked the way of Ambassador Jens Petersen's car, forcing it to stop, and several men opened fire from close range. The car was armor-plated, but the windows were shattered in the attack.
