Haig urges Lisbon to lead drive on Polish crackdown
| Marrakech, Morocco
US Secretary of State Alexander M. Haig Jr. stopped in Morocco Thursday on his way from Lisbon, where he persuaded Portugal to use the European Security Conference to lead the Western attack on martial law in Poland.
In talks with leaders in Lisbon, Mr. Haig indicated Portugal would use its role as chairman of the European Security Conference in Madrid to lead the attack on martial law.
Haig said the Reagan administration approved a $150 million increase in aid to help Portugal buy US farm products. This brought the total earmarked for Portugal under the commodity credits program to $350 million this year.
