Buy exhaust unit designed for purpose

Q. My bathroom has a 1,500-watt fan-light-ceiling unit. The fan is an exhaust squirrel-cage type that works poorly. Since we do not need the exhaust feature, I would like to replace it with a light heater and fan designed to direct the air downward but I can find only infrared units in the store. Any suggestions as to a source? Albert E. Parker Glastonbury, Conn.

A. Several manufacturers make the kind of ceiling unit that you describe so I would not try to jerry-rig a wall unit to the ceiling.

One such ceiling fan is made by Nutone, Madison and Redbank Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45267. The telephone number is (513) 527-5100. Ask for Model No. 9665N.
