East Germany welcomed Poland's military ruler, Gen. Wojciech Jaruzelski, with a huge display of support for his martial law policies.
During talks in East Berlin's Communist Party Central Committee building, head of state Erich Honecker told General Jaruzelski the imposition of martial law had his ''full understanding,'' exactly the phrase used by Soviet President Leonid Brezhnev when the general visited Moscow.
According to the official East German news agency, ADN, Mr. Honecker said martial law was necessary in view of the danger to socialism posed by conterrevolution.
