Poland warns church over Monday's riots

Polish authorities absolved the Roman Catholic Church from blame in this week's riots against martial law, but warned it against manipulation by extremists, following clashes in Warsaw and other cities on Monday. Warsaw was quiet Wednesday with no special security measures in evidence, and authorities restored telephone connections there and in other cities after suspending them Monday evening.

Meanwhile, Swedish television reported that Solidarity leader Lech Walesa has been moved to a new place of detention closer to Poland's border with the Soviet Union. A Swedish TV spokesman said the report was based on information received from a secret radio station in an undisclosed part of Poland.
