Pope plans Argentine visit to balance his British trip

Pope John Paul II dispatched an emissary to President Leopoldo Galtieri with a proposal for a papal visit next month to balance his trip to Britain in the midst of the Falklands war.

The papal maneuvering came as Argentine forces reported attacks on British land and sea forces in the Falkland Islands and Defense Minister Amadeo Frugoli hinted he might seek help that would ''internationalize'' the conflict.

A Vatican spokesman said the Pope was actively considering the visit to Argentina next month to offset anger in Latin America over his visit to Britain this week.
