Papal visit to Poland appears to be OK'd

Government and Roman Catholic Church authorities were expected to confirm at meetings here Tuesday that Pope John Paul II will visit Poland in August as planned for one of the Polish church's major anniversaries.

The visit had been in doubt ever since introduction of martial law last December. But the Pontiff's decision to go ahead with his recent tour of Britain despite its armed conflict with Argentina over the Falkands -- and to visit Argentina later this month -- appears to have settled the issue, correspondent Eric Bourne writes.
