For every taste and budget, a paperback

Quilt As You Go, by Sandra Millett. (Part of the Chilton Needlework Series.) Radnor, Pa.: Chilton Book Company. 245 pp. $10.95.

Every quilter's bookshelf needs a good guidebook. Author Millett demonstrates her successful method of quilt-as-you-go, which gives the quilter the advantage of seeing part of the finished product while still piecing additional blocks. The diagrams are excellent, but the photographs could be of better quality.

Chapters on fabric, pattern, and template making, sample layouts and cutting methods, patching, easy applique, strip assembly, and bindings and borders are included. The last chapter is on drafting layouts and figuring yardages.

Layouts and directions are given for all quilt sizes from crib to king. This will help solve many math problems and keep patchers from going to pieces.

Why is Christian Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Here, you’ll find award-winning journalism not driven by commercial influences – a news organization that takes seriously its mission to uplift the world by seeking solutions and finding reasons for credible hope.
