Israel seeks peace force, but not under UN control

Israeli Foreign Minister Yitzhak Shamir said that the multinational force Israel seeks for keeping the peace in Lebanon should not be under the control of the United Nations.

Israel's requirements for the force, according to Mr. Shamir, also include the cooperation of a new Lebanese government and a multinational force composed of countries having diplomatic ties with Israel (which excludes the Soviet Union and Syria).
