Besides A-freeze, House panel also backs SALT II

In a double setback for President Reagan's arms control policy, the House Foreign Affairs Committee is supporting a nuclear arms freeze while endorsing approval of the unratified SALT II treaty.

The 26-to-4 vote, which divided committee Republicans, came less than a week before the June 29 opening of US-Soviet Strategic Arms Reduction Talks in Geneva. White House spokesman Larry Speakes said Mr. Reagan does not feel the vote represents the views of the majority in the House.
