An American journalist missing in El Salvador

Six journalists, including an American, disappeared from a combat zone where leftist rebels and Army troops fought a bloody daylong battle over a strategic garrison town.

Peasants said guerrillas left the battle site at Suchitoto with ''a gringo'' - apparently Julian Harrison, a United Press International cameraman. Government and rebel sources reported 10 civilians killed and 21 wounded in the fighting.
