Power sharing continues among Yugoslav leaders

Leaders of Yugoslavia's Communist Party continue to share power according to the formula devised by the late President Tito, but they have resisted efforts for further democratization, Monitor correspondent Eric Bourne writes.

The party congress elected a few new people into the collective leadership, but the changes were not as widespread as some liberals urged. Most veterans who stepped aside moved into other senior governmental posts. Next year party leader will be former Prime Minister Mitja Ribicic.
