Schultz would recommend new planes for Taiwan
| Washington
Secretary of State-designate George Shultz said he would recommend to President Reagan that he act promptly to supply new fighter aircraft to Taiwan despite sharp warnings from Peking against the arms sales.
Mr. Shultz' response to a series of questions from Sen. Barry Goldwater (R) of Arizona, a leading Taiwan supporter, appeared to be a sharp break with the policy of former Secretary of State Alexander Haig.
A Taiwan Foreign Ministry official said Tuesday the Reagan administration has assured Taiwan of continued arm sales.
