The Philippine minister of state for foreign affairs, Emmanuel Pelaez, was shot and seriously wounded Wednesday night in an ambush near his home, members of his family said.
Mr. Pelaez was vice-president of the Philippines during the early 1960s and has also held the post of foreign minister. He is now one of two ministers of state for foreign affairs.
President Ferdinand Marcos ordered a hunt for Muslim terrorists suspected to have attacked Mr. Pelaez.
