Reagan backer vs. liberal in Missouri Senate seat

Results of Tuesday's two state primary elections are in.

Missouri's conservative Republican senator, John C. Danforth, a staunch supporter of President Reagan's policies, faces liberal state Sen. Harriett Woods, an abortion rights advocate, in the November election. Senator Woods beat 10 more-conservative male challengers.

In Kansas, Democratic Gov. John Carlin won renomination easily, but the battle to pick a Republican opponent seesawed throughout the night before Wichita developer Sam Hardage won a narrow victory.
