Japan to reconsider textbook whitewash

Japan bowed to mounting outrage in Asian nations over its textbook revisions Thursday, indicating it would reconsider the rewritten histories that whitewash Japanese atrocities in World War II. Foreign Minister Yoshio Sakurauchi announced the decision, saying the textbooks must reflect Japan's repentance and deep regret over its past conduct.
