A resource catalog for parents; The Whole Child: A Sourcebook, by Stevanne Auerbach. New York: Coward, McCann & Geoghegan/Perigee Books. 320 pp. $8.95.

This catalog attempts much: ''to assist you step by step in the process of parenting and in preparing yourself, your home, and your environment for the changes that will take place from pregnancy to when your child reaches twelve years of age.'' It does just that, quoting professional experts in all sorts of fields. Some of the information is helpful, though the book is heavy on material dealing with medical and psychological advice on child raising. However, the appendixes of organizations, periodicals, toys, books, and even children's museums are valuable.

Why is Christian Science in our name?

Our name is about honesty. The Monitor is owned by The Christian Science Church, and we’ve always been transparent about that.

The Church publishes the Monitor because it sees good journalism as vital to progress in the world. Since 1908, we’ve aimed “to injure no man, but to bless all mankind,” as our founder, Mary Baker Eddy, put it.

Here, you’ll find award-winning journalism not driven by commercial influences – a news organization that takes seriously its mission to uplift the world by seeking solutions and finding reasons for credible hope.
