PLO's Arafat asks return of foreign troops to Beirut

The return of Israeli troops to west Beirut triggered separate requests from the Palestian Liberation Organization and Lebanon.

From Rome, PLO leader Yasser Arafat asked for the return of US, French, and Italian troops to Lebanon. He registered the request with Italian Foreign Minister Emilo Colombo, who passed it along to the United States and France.

Lebanon asked Thursday for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the Israeli thrust into west Beirut.
