Iran firing squad executes former foreign minister

The Iranian revolution has devoured another of its leaders. Sadeq Ghotbzadeh, Iran's foreign minister during the US hostage crisis, was executed by firing squad on charges of plotting to overthrow Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Iran announced.

He was convicted by the Army revolutionary tribunal, whose verdict was approved by the high judicial court, the state news agency Irna said. Mr. Ghotbzadeh had helped the Ayatollah foment the 1979 revolution that overthrew the Shah. About 70 Iranian military officers preceded Ghotbzadeh before the firing squad.
