Acting Lebanese premier given permanent post

Acting Prime Minister Shafiq al-Wazzan announced that Lebanese President Amin Gemayel appointed him permanently to the post.

Mr. Wazzan served as acting prime minister during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon and was instrumental among Lebanese negotiators who organized the PLO withdrawal from west Beirut. He said he will begin consultations with various parliamentary blocs today (Oct. 5) to form his new Cabinet.
