Swedish commander says mystery sub may be gone
| Berga, Sweden
Sweden's scare over a suspected foreign submarine spying near its main naval base seemed to be fading after armed forces commander Lennart Ljung said the sub may have escaped.
No sonar contacts with the vessel have been reported since Oct. 8, officers say. Naval officers say the sub could still be trapped in a fjord 40 miles south of Stockholm and that tracking operations will continue.
