NFL players union agrees to try federal mediation

The National Football League Players Association agreed to seek the assistance of federal mediator Kay McMurray in efforts to end the 20-day strike.

In the first meeting in eight days, players' union representatives met in secret with owners' chief negotiator Jack Donlan in a hotel in Rye, N.Y. No efforts were made to resolve issues that separate the union and the Management Council, Donlan said.
