Polish church says no to possible worker strike
| Taranto, Italy
Polish primate Archbishop Jozef Glemp said he was against a general strike called for Nov. 10 by the outlawed Solidarity union because it would only trigger new repression.
The Polish government warned Western countries that any support they offered to Solidarity underground forces planning strikes would only prolong martial law. Government spokesman Jerzy Urban took the unusual step of calling a small group of Western journalists to his office to issue the statement.
