US Chrysler plant making parts Canadians had done
| Detroit
Under a directive from the international union, United Automobile Workers members at a Kokomo, Ind., Chrysler Corporation plant started making parts previously produced by striking Canadian auto workers.
Robert Parker, vice-president of Local 1166 in Kokomo, said the international union told him the work had to be done because the dies were not removed from the plant during the month-long strike but were sent to Kokomo from a repair shop and, therefore, technically could not be considered ''struck work.''
But the president of a union local in Michigan said Chrysler wanted to send his plant similar material and he rejected it because he considered it ''struck work.''
