Reagan will not advise social security panel
| Washington
The White House said Monday that President Reagan wants his presidential commission on reforming the social security system to draw up recommendations on a nonpolitical basis without pressure from him or his advisers. The White House was responding to a complaint by Sen. Robert Dole (R) of Kansas that Mr. Reagan had failed to guide the commission and the Republican leadership on the issue.
The commission, which must submit a report to Mr. Reagan by the end of the month, has failed so far to agree on recommendations to solve what is seen as a financial crisis in the social security system.
