''The play's the thing, wherein I'll catch the conscience of the King.''
South African theatergoers wonder if they'll get a chance to see the Broadway hit ''Master Harold and the Boys'' - a play about a white South African and two black workers. It was written by one of South Africa's best known playwrights, Athol Fugard. Censors earlier banned the text of the play, but that decision has been suspended pending an appeal. One theater here is already planning to stage the play early next year. The censors insisted the early banning order was not for political reasons. Indeed, they admitted they banned the play without even knowing who wrote it.
Even if the banning were reinstated, it's possible it would be legal to perform the play, but not to read it.m
