Afghan rebels keep Kabul tense, diplomats report
| Islamabad, Pakistan
Afghan guerrillas set off bombs in several parts of Kabul last week and security in the capital has been increased sharply, Western diplomats reported Tuesday.
They said that the bombings caused little damage and few casualties but that tension was high in the Afghan capital. Diplomats also reported that in the past week conscription teams enlisted students when they went to their high schools to pick up graduation certificates. Afghan armed forces reportedly want to recruit up to 170,000 men by the end of the Afghan year next March.
