Japan asked to import more European products

The European Community (EC) called on Japan Tuesday to ease trade friction by importing more Community products, including aircraft, Japanese government officials said.

The call was made at the opening day of a semi-annual, high-level meeting between EC and Japanese officials. The meeting is due to conclude tomorrow (Jan. 27). The officials said the Community also wanted the Japanese yen to be pegged at a higher level to help balance the trade gap between the Common Market and Japan.
