Slash in US arms outlays sought by a House leader

The chairman of a key House subcommittee said he plans to seek a $30 billion reduction in the defense budget. The cut in total budget authority for fiscal 1984 would reducing actual spending by $15 billion.
In a hearing with Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger, Rep. Joseph Addabbo (D) of New York attacked the Reagan administration for requesting an extra $1.6 billion for the 1983 budget to cover major military items.
