Only three states escape unemployment rise in '82

Unemployment increased in every state but Delaware, Maryland, and Alaska during 1982, the Labor Department reported. West Virginia suffered the biggest increase of jobless. While among major metropolitan areas, Johnstown, Pa., with a jobless rate of 22.7 percent, had the highest percentage of its civilian labor force out of work in December. It was followed closely by Flint, Mich., at 22 percent. At the other end of the spectrum, Stamford, Conn., again had the lowest unemployment rate, 4 percent.

The figures were not adjusted for seasonal factors.
