French protest detention of doctor in Afghanistan

Three French medical organizations operating clandestine clinics inside Afghanistan protested the continued detention of one of their number by Soviet forces.

Monitor contributor Edward Girardet reports that representatives of Aide Medicale International, Medecins Sans Frontieres, and Medecins du Monde appealed at a news conference here for international support to obtain the release of Dr. Philippe Augoyard. He was captured last month by Soviet troops and, so far as the representatives knew, he was still alive and well.
