Many Boston businesses lose power for 2nd day

Thousands of Boston workers got an unexpected day off as Boston's central financial and waterfront districts were blacked out for a second consecutive day.

A manhole explosion and fire damaged power cables and plunged the city's financial district into darkness, reports Monitor contributor Craig Savoye. A crew of 50 repairmen continued laying electrical conduits in shallow street trenches, temporary repairs that would permit the Boston Edison Company to throw the switch and restore service to the six-mile blackout area.
