Israeli seeks more talks to cut Lebanese impasse

Israeli Foreign Minister Yitzhak Shamir asked for additional meetings with Secretary of State George Shultz, but officials said there was no break in the deadlock over withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon.

Lebanese Foreign Minister Elie Salem, who has been having a parallel series of meetings with Mr. Shultz, was also asked to come to the State Department for a briefing on the situation.

As the orginal schedule of meetings ended Monday, Mr. Shamir told reporters there was agreement on the principle that all foreign forces, including Syrian and Palestinian, should withdraw from Lebanese territory.
