Chicago mayor poll has Washington well ahead
| Chicago
A Gallup poll showed Rep. Harold Washington was a favorite in Chicago's mayoral election next week. But the poll, commissioned by the Chicago Sun-Times and WBBM-TV, found large numbers of white voters were still undecided and the contest could be closer if these voters made a late swing to Republican candidate Bernard Epton. The poll found Mr. Washington was favored by 51 percent, to 37 percent for Mr. Epton.
