In an article by Frederic A. Moritz April 6 on the defection of Hu Na, the second ''not'' was inadvertently dropped from the following sentence. It should have read: ''However, the State Department would not confirm that all of these are from the mainland, saying that statistics do not distinguish applicants from mainland China, Taiwan, or Hong Kong.''
