Solidarity official arrested in Poland

Polish authorities have struck a major blow against the Solidarity opposition by capturing Jozef Pinior, a member of the five-man underground leadership. The official PAP news agency announced the arrest as the authorities stepped up their campaign, through propaganda and police operations, to prevent informal rallies called for May 1. The demonstrations have the tacit approval of Solidarity leader Lech Walesa, who was last week allowed to return to his job as an electrician.
