One of the special events to take place in Nova Scotia this summer is the International Gathering of the Clans, which provides a continuous pageant of colorful activities for tourists. This year nearly 70 clans are expected to meet during the period from June 27 to Aug. 20. There will be festivals of music and games, including the Highland fling, one of the best known of the Scottish dances, as well as ancient rural sports such as tug of war, hammer throwing, putting the shot, and caber throwing.

Gatherings will take place in Annapolis, Truro, New Glasgow, Sydney, Halifax, St. Croix, Hopewell, Nabou, Whycocomagh, New Ross, Goshen, and other towns and villages. The program changes continually as the clans announce their gathering plans, but an update may be obtained from Michele McKenzie, PO Box 1983, Halifax , Nova Scotia, B3J 2V9.
