US economic bellwether went up 1.1% in April

The index of leading economic indicators, a barometer of the future course of the economy, rose a solid 1.1 percent last month. It was the 10th consecutive monthly rise and the latest signal that recovery from recession is continuing. A longer average workweek and higher stock prices helped spur the April rise, the Commerce Department said.
