Reagan sets import limits on various types of steel

President Reagan, coming to the aid of American steelmakers, imposed a series of restrictions on imports of foreign-made specialty steel. Acting on a recommendation for relief by the US International Trade Commission, Mr. Reagan ordered a four-year program of tariffs and import quotas on bar, rod, and alloyed tool steel, stainless steel; and sheet, strip, and plate steel. Last November the commission reported that imports have caused US producers to lose a share of the world market.
