44% of tax returns filed 4 weeks early

Does everyone put off filing his income tax and end up filing just ahead of the deadline? A recent cross-section survey by a market research company (R. H. Bruskin Associates, New Brunswick, N.J.) says no. Out of those persons tested, 44 percent filed four weeks early, 16 percent filed a week before, 9 percent filed on the midnight deadline, and only 4 percent filed late and paid a penalty. Eleven percent of the group polled refused to file.
