New US missile in Europe would end talks - USSR

Soviet leader Yuri Andropov indicated that the Kremlin would regard the disarmament talks in Geneva as effectively over once NATO began stationing US medium-range missiles in Western Europe. Mr. Andropov told a US trade union leader that the Soviet Union was showing a flexible and constructive attitude at the Geneva talks. William Winpisinger, head of the US International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Engineers, was in Moscow on a private visit.
