Salvador rebels reported set to meet US envoy

The political leadership of the leftist guerrillas trying to overthrow the Salvadorean government will hold talks with US envoy Richard Stone ''in the next few days, with an open agenda,'' a guerrilla spokesman announced Saturday. Alberto Arene, US representative for the Revolutionary Democratic Front/Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FDR/FMLN), also said they will meet with the Salvadorean government's National Peace Commission.

According to the Washington Post, Mr. Arene said ''a representative'' from the front would meet with Mr. Stone ''in a Latin American country.'' Costa Rica and Colombia helped make the arrangements, he said, declining to provide more details.
