Jazz Cornelius Bumpus Quarter: "Beacon." (Broadbeach 5) - Cornelius Bumpus's second album sans Doobie Brothers offers a well-crafted jazz venue. It stretches the boundaries a bit more than his first album, ''A Clear View,'' and it has a more unified sound, mainly because Bumpus is playing with the same musicians he tours with, rather than an assemblage of studio musicians. Only one composition on this album is composed by Bumpus himself, ''Waltz for Little Buddy,'' and it shines. Bumpus sings less on this album, and that's a shame, but his saxophone and flute playing is better than ever. Maybe he prefers to sing through a horn. In all, a good investment for jazz lovers and lovers of good music.
