Coup attempt in Niger foiledone map
Forces loyal to Niger President Seyni Kountche foiled an attempted coup Wednesday in the West Africa nation, Prime Minister Oumarou Mamane said Thursday. He said a group of armed men tried to take advantage of the absence of General Kountche, who was visiting France. Niger is a moderate country of 5 million people.
