Salvadorean rebels attack Army column

Rebels attacked a 150-man Army column near a key city north of San Salvador, killing 13 troops and wounding 30 others, military officials said. Officials near Suchitoto said the Army column was operating on the slopes of the Guazapa volcano Tuesday when the attack occurred. Suchitoto lies only a few miles from two hydroelectric dams that supply more than half the country's electric power. Rebels have controlled the only road leading into the city since Oct. 16.
