Guerrillas release sisters of two Guatemala leaders
Leftist guerrillas have released the kidnapped sisters of Guatemala's current head of state and his predecessor. A government spokesman said the Rebel Armed Forces (FAR) freed the sister of head of state Gen. Oscar Mejia Victores Tuesday after more than a month in captivity. FAR also released the sister of former Guatemalan President Efrain Rios Montt. She had been abducted almost four months ago. The women were freed after newspapers published an FAR manifesto accusing the government of murdering 243 Guatemalans since General Rios Montt was deposed in a coup on Aug. 8.
