Demonstrators in Manila demand end to US bases

More than 500 demonstrators marched on the US Embassy in Manila Wednesday and demanded the dismantling of the US military bases in the Philippines, which include the largest American military installations outside the United States.

The demonstration climaxed a three-day antinuclear conference attended by 34 delegates from six countries. March organizer Jose Diokno said the antinuclear conference and demonstration were the first ever held in a Southeast Asian country.
