Cuban envoys on Grenada given conflicting orders
Grenadian Governor General Paul Scoon Wednesday gave Cuban diplomats 24 hours to leave the island, but Cuba said the 18 diplomats would stay until all Cubans held there were sent home.
A group of 57 wounded Cubans were placed on a flight to Havana, but about 600 uninjured Cubans remain on Grenada. US officials said Cuban and Soviet diplomats would be evicted from the island.
The Cuban statement followed reports that Sir Paul had severed diplomatic ties with the Soviet Union and Libya and had asked the Cuban ambassador to leave Grenada. The Cuban government accused the US of holding ''hostage'' the Cubans on the island, adding that the Cuban mission, currently surrounded by US troops, was completely cut off.
